Lead-safety Message: Great horned owls are opportunistic predators that hunt mainly mammals like rats, mice, rabbits, ground squirrels, opossums, skunks, birds like geese, ducks, hawks, and smaller owls and also snakes, lizards, frogs, insects, scorpions and even fish. Lead is an opportunistic toxic that affects mainly the brain, heart and kidneys but also fertility, learning behaviour, balance, eyesight, hearing and any inherited weakness.

Lead-safety Message: This artwork, created using lead-free materials,
depicts an aurora arcing gently over a quiet mountain range and undisturbed
lake. But beneath the surface of this serene landscape lies a deeper
reflection – on the unseen toxins that threaten both nature and our health.
Many of our water sources are no longer as pure as they appear. Lead
continues to leach into drinking water systems, homes and environments. Just
as the aurora responds to invisible solar winds, our ecosystems react to
pollutants we can’t always see.

Lead-safety Message: A Polish study found high lead and nickel levels in sushi and high levels of lead, nickel, cadmium and arsenic in nori – the red algae that is shredded, rack-dried and made into flat sheets and used to wrap sushi. None of the samples tested contained mercury. If you eat a lot of nori or sushi, ask your doctor for a blood lead series to find out if your sushi is heavy metal contaminated.
