“Burnt bark typically has higher-than-background lead levels (especially in inner-city potentially lead-petrol impacted bushland like this) & saprophytic mushrooms (the decomposers of wood etc. like this one) absorb more lead than mycorrhizal mushrooms (fungi which partner with roots). So identifying whether a mushroom is edible is not the only responsibility of the urban mushroom-hunter before cooking & eating them!”
