Lead-safety Message: After more than a century of uncovered ore trains (inset) spreading toxic lead and other heavy and radioactive metals through Broken Hill and all along the train line to Port Pirie smelter, Jenny Rowbotham led a successful campaign to get the ore trucks covered so today you can see green trains snaking through the town between the mine waste dumps or line of lode (on the right) and nearby heavily contaminated residences.
