Lead-safety Message: LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs sold today in Australia are not only more energy efficient but also don’t contain lead cats-eyes contacts like the old incandescent bulbs did. So, while all light bulbs should be separated from general waste for recycling, mercury- and lead-free LED bulbs can be recycled for their glass and aluminium with less hazardous waste created, and hopefully, in the future we’ll also extract valuable gallium and indium in the LED recycling process so we don’t have to usurp good farming land to mine these rare minerals.
